There was a crowd of 23,193 at Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday as Wales faced Costa Rica in the Gary Speed Memorial Match.

Script:

Over 23,000 fans flocked to the Cardiff City Stadium to remember former Wales manager Gary Speed as the national side faced Costa Rica in a memorial match on Wednesday.

VOX POP (English) Wales supporter:

"Been coming down for years. Obviously, (we recently had) a good couple of results, taken us the right way - and, obviously, a bit of a tragedy. So it's just nice to come down not just to say goodbye but to wish everybody in the future more success really - I think that's why. You know, it's not just about Gary going, it's about continuing what he started, so that's why we're all down tonight."

Speed's two sons, Ed and Tom, sang the national anthem alongside Craig Bellamy, who captained the team for the night.

Fans sang Speed's name throughout the match.

However, the match ended in a 1-0 defeat - Wales manager Chris Coleman was clearly emotional in his post-match press conference having made his debut as Speed's successor.

"Yeah, wasn't looking forward to tonight. I knew it was going to be difficult. Listen, we're playing for our country, we want to win the game, (of) course we do... I've said that before. But I knew it would be difficult for the players, we saw that at the start of the game, we were rusty and slow. But in all fairness to them (the players)... the whole occasion... we don't normally prepare for games like we did tonight... but look, it wasn't about us was it tonight? It was about "Speeds" - and his family are there and his friends, and everybody's come out - a great turnout from the Welsh public which is what he deserved, and it was all about him tonight."

Those in attendance in Cardiff displayed how well respected Speed was by football fans around the world.
