Ibrahimovic 100% Swedish against Croatia

Wednesday, February 29 2012 by SNTV

  • Intro:

Sweden face a stern test on Wednesday when they take on Croatia in Zagreb.

Both teams will feature in the finals of 2012 - and will be looking to gauge their progress on the way to the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

    Script:

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be walking out with the Swedish side in Zagreb on Wednesday, creating something of a stir.

The controversial AC Milan striker is of Bosnian and Croatian descent but will be pitched against Croatia in the international friendly, a warm-up for both sides before Euro 2012.

Ibrahimovic knows the country - knows the players - but will be one hundred per cent Sweden on Wednesday.

(asked about his parents and offers to play for either Croatia or Bosnia):

"I think that is an old story. Even Bosnia, they were speaking that I would play for them, but, my mother is born in Croatia and my father in Bosnia, but I'm born in Sweden, I'm a hundred per cent Swedish. I represent Sweden with big honour, so I don't think there was any moment that someone asked me if I would play for Croatia or Bosnia, So I don't think this was a question for me. I never think about it because it was not a question for me."

But even so, there's still evidence of his Balkan roots.

(asked if his Balkan roots have anything to do with his temper):

"Of course, I feel this. I'm raised up in a different mode, in a different world. So, I speak the language at home. My father and mother, they are not Swedish. They raised me up like they were raised up. I think I have that temperament in my head, as the guy said before, and of course this is because of mentality. It is something I will always keep in me, and I will always be like that."

Daniel Majstorovic and John Guidettti are injury worries for Wednesday.

But Sweden will be hoping to have them back in full force before they face Ukraine, France and England in Group D of the Euros.
