The Netherlands head to Wembley

The Netherlands will be hoping to reverse a worrying sequence of results when they take on England at Wembley in an international friendly on Wednesday night.

Bert van Marwijk's side have been beaten by Germany and Sweden in recent months and have also been held to a draw by Switzerland.

It will be the Netherlands' first trip to the new 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium, but for Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt, it'll be his second appearance there in four days - the former Feyenoord star was part of the Liverpool side which won the Carling Cup on Sunday, beating Cardiff City on penalties.

Bert van Marwijk's Netherlands squad trained at the Quick Boys stadium in Katwijk on Monday, two days before they take on England in a friendly international at Wembley stadium.

The World Cup finalists, currently third in the FIFA rankings, have suffered a few setbacks on the pitch in recent games, losing to Germany and Sweden and being held to a draw by Switzerland.

However, van Marwijk remains confident that the core of the side which won Group E in Euro 2012 qualification will stand the 'Oranje' in good stead for the actual tournament.

Wednesday's match will be a trip into uncharted territory for many in the squad - as it's the first time the Dutch national side have played at the new Wembley stadium.

Not for Dirk Kuyt though - it'll be his second trip in four days after helping Liverpool claim the Carling Cup on Sunday.

"Obviously it (winning the Carling Cup at Wembley on Sunday) was a great feeling, my first trophy for the team after six years in the club. It was a proud moment to play at Wembley, and lots of supports of Liverpool were behind us yesterday and it was great atmosphere and it was great to lift the trophy at the end."

The game's an important one for both sides, as preparations continue ahead of Euro 2012.

And Kuyt doesn't think it's going to be a 'friendly' match at all.

"I think it's a very interesting game. England will be also contenders in Euro and we want to be there, also. It will be interesting to play on the Wembley, a very big pitch, lots of supporters, capacity of 90.000 people, so hopefully it will be sold out. It's not a friendly, it's a very important game for both of us."

Looking at the odds, in 18 games between the nations, England have won five, the Netherlands four and nine have ended in draws.
