Shanghai Shenhua defeat second-placed Jiangsu Suning 3-2 in the Chinese Super League on Saturday (30th September), as the hosts rise to third place in the CSL standings.
Jiangsu Suning travelled to the Shanghai Hongkou Football Stadium on Saturday in the knowledge that victory over hosts Shanghai Shenhua could take them within seven points of the runaway CSL leaders: Guangzhou Evergrande.
However, the home side started brightly as from an early corner, Giovanni Moreno's fierce volley was brilliantly parried onto the crossbar by Jiangsu Suning goalkeeper Gu Chao in the fourth minute.
Then, against the run of play but going with billing, Jiangsu Suning broke and opened the scoring after 22 minutes.
Ji Xiang's cross headed home by Roger Martinez as the ball looped into the far corner of the net.
Seven minutes later and Shanghai equalised from the penalty spot.
Yang Xiaotian fouling Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins with a clumsy challenge in the box to concede a penalty.
The Jiangsu Suning players remonstrated with the linesman about the decision - but it was the right one and
Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin equalises from the spot-kick.
1-1 after 29 minutes.
In an entertaining game of end-to-end football, Alex Teixeira then released Martinez into the penalty area with a clever ball and he restores the lead with a clinical finish for his second goal of the game two minutes before half-time.
After the interval, Shanghai dominated and equalised once more on the hour mark.
Bai Jiajun's sublime pass put Martins clear in the box and he equalised with a smartly taken finish.
The winner came when Guarin's long range effort took a deflection off Australian Trent Sainsbury.
A 3-2 win for Shanghai Shenhua as they rise to third place in the CSL standings.
