  • Manchester City defeated Borussia Dortmund 6-5 on penalties in their International Champions Cup tie on Thursday (28th July).

The match finished 1-1 in regulation time.

Manchester City belatedly kicked off their tour of Asia, while Borussia Dortmund were playing a Manchester side for the second time in a week.

Dortmund dominated United 4-1, yet here City looked the better side.

Kelechi Iheanacho should have given City a half-time lead.

Shenzhen was sweltering for an evening game at 30 degrees, yet City mustered a fluid attack late on. David Silva and Sergio Aguero combining.

The Argentinean with his first goal on return from his summer break.

Shortly after, Fernandinho certainly appeared to bring down Shinji Kagawa - the former United player was incensed.

But the Germans did manage to draw level six minutes into injury time when Christian Pulisic took advantage of some lax defending.

That meant a penalty shoot-out where City replacement goalkeeper Angus Gunn proved the hero.

The 20-year-old saved three spot-kicks - the crucial one from Mikel Merino to win it for Pep Guardiola's men although Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel did not seem too disappointed by the outcome.
