Suarez talks contracts, Messi and Ronaldo

Saturday, July 23 2016 by SNTV
  • Luis Suarez said on Friday (22nd July) that he thinks Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi will reverse his decision to quit the Argentina national team.

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Luis Suarez, FC Barcelona forward:

"I still have a contract (with Barcelona). I've heard that they are talking about my renewal. They haven't told me directly but I am not worried. I know the club will value my effectiveness when the time comes. We have more important things right now."

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Luis Suarez, FC Barcelona forward (about Lionel Messi):

"I know he is very well and enjoying his holidays. Obviously as any player he is looking forward to come back to training. We all know how hard it was for him - both the Copa America and his trial. But he has a very positive personality. So we must all give him our support."

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Luis Suarez, FC Barcelona forward (about Messi's quitting the Argentina national team):

"I can't imagine it and neither do I hope it will happen. Both as team-mate and football fan I would love to continue watching Leo playing with the Argentina shirt. He loves Argentina and when he arrived here as a kid he received offers to become a Spanish citizen to play for Spain. And he always favoured Argentina. So his love for Argentina is out of discussion. But we must also understand his situation after losing the finals (World Cup and Copa America) it was understandable. But I think he will make up his mind to rejoin the team."

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Luis Suarez, FC Barcelona forward (about Cristiano Ronaldo having more options to win Ballon d'Or):

I don't know whether he has advantages. It is true that he's won Euros and the Champions League. But for me the fact that Leo (Messi) is the best player in the world is out of discussion. It isn't about having won more or less awards. He is the best player in the world for difference. He makes the difference during any given game. He couldn't win with Argentina this season but with Barcelona he's won almost everything except Champions League. And those are numbers that help winning the Ballon d'Or."
