New Zealand and Wales prepare for Auckland test

Saturday, June 11 2016 by SNTV
  • The New Zealand and Wales camps look ahead to the first Test on Saturday (11th June) where the tourists are aiming to beat the All Blacks for the first time in 63 years.

New Zealand and Wales are both going through their final preparations ahead of their meeting at Eden Park this Saturday.

Wales are hunting for their first win over the All Blacks in 63 years, and are the latest side to attempt to end the home side’s 21-year winning streak at the Auckland stadium.

New Zealand captain Kieran Read says his teammates are not paying attention to the record books.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Kieran Read, All Blacks Captain:

"Not really. I know most of the guys probably have either read about it or been told a few stories about what the history is between these teams. We don't want to touch on it too much. We have a few other things to worry about. As a group it's our first chance of 2016 to go out there and show what we've got so that's what we're focusing on."

Welsh Kicking Coach Neal Jenkins also faced the press on Friday, and know the size of the task that faces his team.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Neal Jenkins, Welsh Kicking Coach:

"Not really. I think its New Zealand, no matter where you play them they're going to be tough, they're going to be strong. If it's in New Zealand we know their home record is pretty impressive. No matter where they play in the world they're pretty impressive. Obviously we've been here, the players and some of the staff for the World Cup in 2011. The semi-finals and the third, fourth didn't go too well for us on that occasion. Hopefully we can turn that around tomorrow and play well and come away with something."

Should Wales manage to overturn their losing streak against the All Blacks it would have to rank vert highly among their recent achievements.
