Fiji seal successive Sevens title at Twickenham

  • Fiji secured a second World Rugby Sevens Series title in a row by reaching the Cup quarter-finals at the 10th and final round of the series in London on Saturday (21st May).

    The London Sevens completes the series circuit for the season at the 10th round starting at Twickenham on Saturday.

    An early upset saw England defeat Fiji 31-0.

    The Pacific Islanders responded though beating Australia to firstly secure a quarter-final spot and also a second successive World Rugby series.

    Head coach Ben Ryan spoke of his side's resolve.

    "Feels brilliant. We had a roller coaster of a day. Came out badly and then we rebounded fantastically. You can never be sure, but in the changing room before that game, it was in their eyes. They weren't going to let Australia score and they played such good rugby. We now want to refuel and win this tournament tomorrow."

    Second in the overall standings, South Africa breezed into the quarters winning all their pool games.

    The United States continued their fine season in the series, defeating Samoa here en route to a quarter-final with New Zealand on Sunday.

    And finally, a special day for Kenya's Collins Injera whose four tries on Saturday moves him top of the all-time try scorer chart.

    The knockout rounds of the London Sevens takes place on Sunday.
