Leicester City a lucky charm in Thailand

Wednesday, May 04 2016 by SNTV
  • Following on from Leicester City's Premier League title win, people of Thailand have recognised the Leicester badge of a fox as a lucky charm.
Buddhist worshippers have flocked to the temple where Leicester's Thai owners pray in the hope that the Foxes' symbol brings them luck. SNTV reports from Bangkok on Tuesday (May 3).

Leicester City's improbable Premier League title has turned a Bangkok Buddhist temple into one of Thailand's luckiest destinations.

Blessed banners of the club have suddenly become hot items at the Wat Traimitr Withayaram, the temple where the family of Leicester's Thai owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha regularly attend.

Before almost every home match during this Premier League season, several temple monks blessed the Foxes' players.

Now with the prayers of both the temple monks and Leicester supporters having been answered, dozens of devotees began arriving on Tuesday hoping the club's good luck will rub off on them.

One follower of the monk at the Wat Traimirr temple, spoke of the excitement surrounding the Foxes lucky charm.

"Everyone is looking for the banner, including VIPs and followers (of the monk). I feel like a potato landed on my lap. Everybody is calling me saying that I am close to Chao Khun Thongchai (a common name of Phra Prommangkalachan), that perhaps I can help them get Leicester City banners."

Leicester City clinched the title just before sunrise in Bangkok when Spurs drew 2-2 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, guaranteeing the team one of the most surprising championship wins in recent sporting history.
