Benitez 'emotional' at Anfield

Sunday, April 24 2016 by SNTV
  • Newcastle United's manager Rafa Benitez and Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp speak on Saturday (23rd April) after the Magpies came from behind to draw 2-2 at Anfield in the English Premier League.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rafa Benitez, Newcastle United manager:

"Very emotional. The fans, the city, the club...so I have a very good relationship with the Liverpool obviously. My family is still living here and it was emotional because the Liverpool fans were singing my name and after [that] the Newcastle fans singing my name so really pleased to have this reaction. Really pleased because we get a point against a really good team and hopefully they can do really well now in the Europa League.

"We knew that the first half was not the best and that we needed to react. So I told them similar to what I said in the past...we have to fight, we have to show more character and I think the players had a fantastic reaction."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager:

"Today, especially the first half was really good. In the second half after the draw, usually the game can change but it didn't. We were still dominant and we played football. In an intensive game, after an intensive game, against a rested opponent, blah blah blah, we did really well.

"It was not a real chance, to be honest! [Laughs.] But he [Daniel Sturridge] made the best of it and so it was good."
