Howe takes positives despite Stoke defeat

  • Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says he intends to take the positives from their 3-1 defeat to Stoke on Saturday.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Eddie Howe, AFC Bournemouth manager:

    (Q. Does it surprise you that your players appeared to lack confidence against Stoke?)

"Yes, of course it does, when we've been so good and our runs's been so strong. But football's a strange game, it only takes a moment, a game, to just lose your way, and you have to refind yourself again. So for us it's back to the training pitch, back to hard work. I think there has to be an understanding of the quality of (Stoke's) goals, I thought it was really high today. The first goal (Giannelli Imbula), as I said, was a great strike, and the third goal (Joselu) was very well worked. The second goal (Ibrahim Afellay) is the one we are really disappointed with, from our perspective we were caught on the counter. Those moments changed today and we had our chances and didn't take them."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Eddie Howe, AFC Bournemouth manager:

"I think any defeat can be a positive in time, because hopefully it makes you refocus your aims and ideas and everything you are trying to do. So that's what we need to do at this moment. We're in a key run of games, an important run for us, and we need to make sure that we don't look at the end of this season and have any regrets at this stage. It's very much a case of focus on the next challenge, but know we have to do better."
