Late Ogbonna winner sends West Ham through in the FA Cup

  • Angelo Ogbonna scored an extra-time winner to give West Ham a 2-1 win over Liverpool on Tuesday (9th February) in and FA Cup fourth round replay.

A tremendous atmosphere inside Upton Park as West Ham United welcomed Liverpool for their FA Cup fourth round replay.

The first tie ended goalless, but it was West Ham who took the lead in this one. A minute before half time, midfielder Michail Antonio volleyed West Ham ahead sending his strike across Simon Mignolet.

But Liverpool were level a couple of minutes after the restart through Philippe Coutinho's invention. The Brazilian rolled his free-kick under the wall and beyond goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

With the game level and finely balanced it went to extra time. Christian Benteke played a neat one-two with fit-again Daniel Sturridge, before the latter sent him racing clear on goal. With just Randolph to beat the Belgian international shot straight at the keeper.

Sturridge then shot narrowly over the bar in the second period of extra time- the game still level and looked to be heading for penalties.

But there was to be late drama. Angelo Ogbonna rose highest to meet a Dimiti Payet cross and power home the winner- his first goal for the club, and what a time to get it.

121 minutes on the clock: joy for West Ham who go through to the fifth round, Liverpool crash out.
