  • Carolina Panthers kicker Graham Gano recalls his early upbringing in Scotland ahead of Sunday's (7th February) Super Bowl 50.

SOUNDBITE (English): Graham Gano, Carolina Panthers kicker:

    Q. Graham, how does it feel, all of Arbroath (town of his birth), all of Scotland, cheering you on this weekend?

"It's exciting, I'm excited for my family that's over there, and my mother in Florida, she's actually going to be here at the game, so I'm really excited about it and I think it will be a good time."

SOUNDBITE (English): Graham Gano, Carolina Panthers kicker:

    Q. Do you still have quite a few relatives in Abroath?

"I have my sister, my aunt and uncles, my cousins and my niece, so it's nice to have family back home cheering for me."

SOUNDBITE (English): Graham Gano, Carolina Panthers kicker:

    Q. Can you still remember much about Arbroath from when you were growing up?

"A little bit, I was so young at the time but I can remember the scenery, the landscape, we grew up on a farm out there and I still remember bits and bits, but it's been so long since I've been back."

SOUNDBITE (English): Graham Gano, Carolina Panthers kicker:

    Q. Do you like what you would call the soccer over there, and do you still keep an eye on the football in Scotland?

"It's been hard, I have two little boys now, so I'm spending most of my time hanging out with them and spending time with them at home, but my dream growing up was always to play for the Scottish national team and never play (American) football, so it's changed a little bit. But I'm really excited to have the jerseys now."

SOUNDBITE (English): Graham Gano, Carolina Panthers kicker:

    Q. Of course you're not the first Scottish man to hopefully win the the Super Bowl., Lawrence Tynes (placekicker with New York Giants, Super Bowl winners 2012) kicked his way to success a few years ago.

"Yes, we actually have really similar stories. I think our mums are from Scotland and we were both born there, our dads were in the military, and we share the same agent as well. It's really funny, I was just texting him this morning and so we keep in touch as well."
