  • WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) independent investigative commission release details of second report into doping allegations that has shocked world athletics.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Richard Pound, World Anti-Doping Agency independent commission's Chief Advisor

(on the IAAF acknowledging its role)

"The commission has been troubled by the apparent unwillingness of the IAAF to acknowledge that the conduct does indeed reflect on the IAAF and that it must assume it responsibilities for what went wrong. It was also apparent to the commission that the institutional knowledge of the problems with Russia was far wider than has been acknowledged and that the IAAF had displayed no genuine appetite to deal with the problems."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Richard Pound, World Anti-Doping Agency independent commission's Chief Advisor

(discussing a cover up at the IAAF)

"Yes. Of course there was a cover up and a delay and all sorts of things. Acknowledge this. I mean, if you can't acknowledge it you are never going to get past it so we are...every time we give a report we get documents an inch thick from the IAAF dicing and slicing and saying 'well it wasn't...it was just a few rogue individuals that were doing this. It wasn't the IAAF which consists of nothing but loyal servants ‘blah blah blah blah.' This started with the President. The President was elected four time by the congress. It then went to the treasurer (who was) elected by the congress. It then goes to the personal advisor the the President who is inserted into the management structure. It goes to the director of the medical and anti-doping...it goes to two nepotistic appointments. I am sorry, that affects the reputation of the IAAF. You can deny that all you wish but I think you have got to take that on board and come out the other side."
