Wasps beat Bath to move clear in European Champions Cup

  • Wasps beat Bath 36-10 at the Recreation Ground on Saturday to open up a six point lead at the top of Pool Five of the European Champions Cup.

    In the Championship Cup Bath entertained Wasps with both Premiership sides vying for a quarter-final spot.

    Bath started strongly, less the 10 minutes on the clock when Semesa Roko-dug-uni cruised away to score the opening try. George Ford added the conversion to put the hosts 7-0 ahead.

    But that simply seemed to spur Wasps on.

    Elliot Daly and Jimmy Gopperth both scored first half tries, with Gopperth also producing a flawless kicking performance to put the visitors 23-7 ahead at the break.

    Bath made wholesale changes at the start of the second half and had just a solitary penalty from Ford to show for considerable periods of pressure.

    Gopperth kicked his first penalty of the half to put Wasps ahead with 15 minutes of the game remaining, Then this superb break off the back of the lineout, passing to Alapati Leiua who raced away and scored this - their third try of the game.

    The 36-10 win gives Wasps a six point cushion at the top of Pool 5,
