Everton manager Roberto Martinez spoke on Monday (30th November) ahead of his side's English League Cup quarter final against Middlesbrough on Tuesday (1st December).

"We know tomorrow is a big event because we haven't been in that situation for a long, long time. If you look historically at the stats we haven't quarter finals of the League Cup in the last thirty years. It's only twice that we've been in that situation so that shows you that it is a big footballing event."

"I don't think we're look at it in terms of trying to win a title. At this stage it's trying to win a quarter final and try to progress into a semi final. I think last season was very clear for us in order to develop that mentality that when you are in Europe, when you are in the league, whatever momentum you have in different competitions you need to develop the resillence of going into a game and being able to perform and develop that winning mentality and I think that's exactly the same this week."

"In this competition, in a game, I don't think the divisional status gives you a benefit or not. You need to be ready for the game, you need to have a clear understanding of how to perform and clearly the mentality in our camp is to be ready and we can't wait for the game after the feeling that we got left at the weekend (following 3-3 draw with Bournemouth in the Premier League). We are very much looking forward to the game to start.
