McClaren: "I am really hurting"

Sunday, November 29 2015 by SNTV
  • Reaction after Crystal Palace thrash Newcastle Utd 5-1 in the English Premier League on Saturday (28th November) at Selhurst Park.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Steve McClaren, Newcastle United manager:

(Q: You must be hurting with that result?)

"I am really hurting. I've hurt in the past (laughs) and we knew this was a tough job but this is getting tougher by the weeks. But 13 games to go and we know we are in a relegation battle, we have got 25 left. We have had experience of this and it is about coming through adversity and about coming through bad times, getting stronger, showing character. Character and mettle and determination and fight - that's what you learn through adversity and that is what we have got to go through. We are going through it and we need to come out the other end. So, send the players back to work tomorrow morning."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alan Pardew, Crystal Palace manager:

"You know, it was a kind of pivotal game. Not...whoever the opposition was, this was a pivotal game in our season because, was we going to be become a mid-table team and drift around there. Or was we going to put ourselves back into contention with that top eight sides because the top eight sides in the Premier League are really really good sides. Southampton got beat today, Stoke..Stokje got beat today. They are the sides that we are competing with and we have put ourselves back in with the Everton's and the Tottenham's. That's where we want to be and that is where our ambition should be."
