Wednesday, November 25 2015 by SNTV
  • Fan zone security is to be increased at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, according to the Russian Sports Minister on Tuesday (24th November).

"I have already said that of course we have touched upon the problem of security and examined it in detail. Now the security measures will naturally be strengthened in connection with the circumstances in the world. Today our colleagues from FIFA focused on us paying more attention to the fan zones. Of course that will be done. The plan for Russia's security measures has been agreed upon. On 30 of November, we will have a special delegation from FIFA. We will talk about the details connected to different sections of the whole plan. So, in general, the security measures and the perimeters, the calculation of what we can do and how much it will cost - we in Russia will of course pay close attention to all these issues, to everything connected to security in Russia. We are already doing a lot of work making sure everything is guarded, checking all freight, so we are working at full speed. As you all know, there will be a special meeting in Europe next week. Today, the EU is preparing a security convention for football matches and if all the countries agree on ratification then it is really important to use it in all countries without exception to make it possible to exchange information. And the security measures for 2018 will be given special attention."
