Allardyce pleased with 'dogged' Sunderland

  • Sam Allardyce and Alan Pardew react to Sunderland's 1-0 win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sam Allardyce, Sunderland Manager:

"Yeah, why should I be ashamed? No, no problem with winning 1-0 and playing exactly the way Crystal Palace play away from home - counter-attacking football, defend deep, play on the break. Palace do it better than us but we have done it sufficiently enough today to win 1-0 and if we had to be resilient and we have to be determined and dogged. Like I said, our two victories have come from two clean sheets so for us about being resilient and frustrating the opposition. Palace have just come back, the size of this victory is that Palace have just come back from beating Liverpool away, that is how good they are."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alan Pardew, Crystal Palace Manager:

"We fell down tonight. We overdid a couple of times - or a few times - in wide areas. We should have been doing it a bit more simplistic but should have had a few more ideas, put a bit more pressure on that back five. We couldn't manage to do that tonight."

"Scott Dann has been fantastic for us but he has just read that situation wrong. He has tried to sort of ease Jermain (Defoe) away and Jermain checked his run and got the other side of him. Then he was always in trouble. It was a bit risky. But then really shouldn't have been in that position. Yannick (Bolasie) tried a trick in midfield and it was stuff like that which was happening tonight where he should have been cleaner and, as I say, more incisive really..especially in the last third."
