Premier League teams stand united with France

Sunday, November 22 2015 by SNTV
  • Watford and Manchester United stood with France on Saturday (21st November) with all the weekend's English Premier League games preceded by the French national anthem, La Marsellaise.

Watford and Manchester United stood unified before kick off at Vicarage Road on Saturday, as the weekend's round of Premier League fixtures took on a very different feel.

France's national anthem, "La Marseillaise", was played before the early match between both teams, as the English Premier League honoured victims of the Paris terror attacks.

It came days after fans of both France and England sang the anthem prior to Tuesday's friendly international between the two sides at Wembley.

Officials said the anthem would be played before all this weekend's 10 top-flight matches in England, the first round of Premier League fixtures since the attacks, which left 130 people dead.

There are 72 French players and two French managers (Arsenal's Arsene Wenger and Aston Villa's Remi Garde) involved in English football's top flight.

Two of those players were on show at Vicarage Road with United's Morgan Schneiderlin, a member of the France squad who was in Paris at the time of the attacks, and Watford's Etienne Capoue.
