SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael Cheika, Australia head coach (on losing in the final)

"The number didn't matter in the end there. Obviously very painful to lose a big match. We've had a great campaign and we wanted to continue that on and when you look up and you see that you haven't done that, that's when it's painful and you've got to eat it up."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael Cheika, Australia head coach (on coming back into the match)

"No, I felt that 40 minutes was enough time. Even after they scored, 35 minutes, 30 minutes was enough time for us to claw our way back into the contest and change the momentum of the contest, which we did. At 21-17, I don't even know how long there was to go, and then even when it got to seven points behind, you get a try there, you can take the game into extra time where you've still got time...so we're right back in the hunt in the second half. We could have easily gone home then. Everyone would have been happy, we had a good campaign and we could've easily said 'Okay we're sweet', but the heart and the courage in the team - I believe it's been built in this team and will last us going forward - was one that they didn't want to do that, and they wanted to stay in the battle until the end, which I thought we did."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Stephen Moore, Australia captain (on Cheika and playing for Australia)

"Not just at this tournament but since this group's come together under Chek (Cheika), we've spent a lot of time making sure that we understand what it means to play for Australia and pull the jersey on and I guess whatever you do on the field is a consequence of that. Tonight, we just weren't good enough. That was it so all that other stuff, I guess, we'll just sit back when we get home and there's certainly been terrific support from home. It's been fantastic and we really appreciate that and we would've loved to deliver tonight but that's the way it goes."
