Reaction from Steve Hansen and Richie McCaw after New Zealand's 34-17 win over Australia in the final of the Rugby World Cup at Twickenham on Saturday (31st October).

"It's extremely difficult when you get a winner and a loser and for the losers it's a tough night. But what I would like to say, on behalf of myself and the team, I thought Australia were magnificent in the way they approached the game. They never laid down. At 21-3, you could be fooled into thinking that the game was over but that came back and at 21-17 they could have easily won the back. From our point of view, we'd like to acknowledge them for being the opponents they were. Whilst we are very proud of what we have achieved, as a group we would like to say well done to Australia as well."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Richie McCaw, New Zealand captain (on the difference between this time and 2011)

"A bit of a different feel to 2011. I think the game was a bit tighter, obviously, going into the last few seconds and it was just a massive relief four years ago. Whereas I think this time we saw it rather than just having to win because of all the reasons that had gone before, this was an opportunity that we really wanted to take, and turning up here today we just wanted to do the job the best we could. And it was like at the end, rather than a huge sense of relief, it was just satisfaction that we got the job done so I think that's where it's different. It's still the same joy and an excitement but just slightly different edge to it because of, perhaps, last time we won it whereas the time before we'd been knocked out early. So just a little bit different but it will sink in over the next wee while, I'm sure."
