New Zealand ready to make history

  • SuggestedLeadIn: New Zealand continue their preparations ahead of the Rugby World Cup final with Australia.

    Script:

New Zealand will aim to become the first-ever side to successfully defend a Rugby World Cup title when they face Australia in the 2015 final at Twickenham on Saturday.

Having edged past South Africa 20-18 in a brutal encounter last weekend, the All Blacks are well aware that the job is not yet done.

With a mixture of experience and young talent in their ranks, the strength of their substitutes has been one of the features of New Zealand's World Cup campaign so far.

For Victor Vito, the strength of the bench could be a decisive factor.

    SOUNDBITE, Victor Vito:

"I think the key thing is, to make an impact, you've got to nail your key roles first. So for someone like myself, I might have to cover a couple of positions, so making sure early on in the week I've got all that clarity nailed down so that come game time, once I know where I'm going it's really just about bring the raw energy and enthusiasm to what could be some tiring legs."

Despite their rich history and instense rivalry, New Zealand have never faced Australia in a World Cup final.

The All Blacks beat France in 1987 and 2011 on both occasions that they won the trophy, and lost South Africa in the final in1995.

For Australia, it will be their first final appearance since losing to England in 2003.

They last lifted the Webb Ellis trophy in 1999 - also on British soil - but have beaten the All Blacks only once in their last 12 encounters.

New Zealand will be hoping to extend that record come Saturday.
