  • Scotland's Josh Strauss thinks physicality is the key to unlocking Australia as he spoke at a news conference on Wednesday (14 October) in Guildford, England, ahead of the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup.

"I've never played Twickenham so it will be brilliant for me if I am involved and England being the home nation. I think the backing for them would have been great. But so far this World Cup as you have seen - it doesn't matter which country is playing where - the support has been brilliant so I think the stadium is going to be great and hopefully there is going to be a lot of blue jerseys."

SOUNDBITE (English) Josh Strauss, Scotland (How do you plan to stop Michael Hooper and David Pocock?)

"They are good players. There is obviously no way around that. Like I said earlier, I am lucky enough to have played them in the past in different competitions obviously. But you just have to be physical. You have got to be there quicker. You have got to be better and it's knockout rugby. If we are good on the day then we will win the game. And that will mean fronting up and being in their face all day."

SOUNDBITE (English) Josh Strauss, Scotland (Q. Is the best way to stop Michael Hooper and David Pocock just through physicality?)

"You want to nullify their strengths - especially at the breakdown. If you are in there quicker and you are in there stronger - you will take them away and you will keep them out of the game. It is easier said than done. Obviously you have got to put in the performance in the week and you can say it all you want but that's the focus and when that whistle goes on Sunday hopefully that is the mindset and we'll be in it."

"They are a great team. Being a keen supporter of the Super Rugby, watching it this year and watching how well the individual teams who I knew were going to be good this year and it's really worked out. They have gelled really well. They have got great experience. I don't have to mention the guy's names - everyone knows them. They have got brilliant players. Great experience and a good mix of young and old. And some very exciting young players as well. Their scrum has been brilliant. Their pack has been good so it's really a great balance. It's a great challenge for us to try and nullify that."
