McGrath: 'Ireland will pull together for Paul O'Connell'

Wednesday, October 14 2015 by SNTV
  • SOUNDBITE: (English) Jack McGrath, Ireland prop (Q: What's your reaction to Paul O'Connell's injury-enforced exit from the squad?)

"The squad that we have it's going to pull us tighter together, we're going to want to do it for the guys that have gone home injuryed, because any time Paul has pulled on the Irish jersey for the last fifteen years he hasn't left anything on the pitch and I think it would be a tragedy if we did it (leave something on the pitch). So I think for us as a group it is going to pull us tighter together."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jack McGrath, Ireland prop (On potential replacements in the team for O'Connell?)

"It's an opportunity for the younger guys and I think Iain (Henderson) has been playing excellent and Donnacha (Ryan) has been training brilliantly and preparing us really well and any time he's got an opportunity in the last couple of games he's stepped up. So he has great experience there and it's exciting I suppose for those guys."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jack McGrath, Ireland prop (Q: What have you made of Argentina in the Rugby World Cup?)

"they're very dangerous, they've put out some serious performances in the group stages, pushing New Zealand very close in the first round. So we're not going to take them lightly, there are some serious footballers, to go along with their strength in the scrum and lineout. They've some great footballers in their backrow and their backs, so they're going to be very dangerous from everywhere on the pitch. We're going to have to do our homework and we're really looking forward to all aspects of battle."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Robbie Henshaw, Ireland centre (On Paul O'Connell's injury-enforced exit)

"Just a true inspirational leader and obviously he's going to be a massive loss in our team from now on. So we're going to have to front up and hopefully the boys, we have great lads coming in there, so hopefully they'll be able to front up and take over."
