SOUNDBITE (English) Stuart Lancaster, England coach:

"Obviously well done to Australia on the win today. Obviously from my point of view, and obviously Chris' (Robshaw) as well, we're absolutely gutted to be going out of the World Cup, and more so our own World Cup, obviously. Words can't express how disappointed we are. We've had some fantastic supporters and we feel like we've let them down. But credit to Australia, I thought they're probably one of the best sides we've played in the last 12-18 months and they deserved the win."

SOUNDBITE (English) Stuart Lancaster, England coach: (Question - Will you consider your position given the result?)

"Yeah, obviously I think I've got to. It's not just going to be my decision but it's not one for now. We've still got another week to go..."

SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Cheika, Australia coach: (Question - Do you have sympathy for Stuart Lancaster?)

"Our goal is not to put Stuart Lancaster in a difficult position. Our goal is to play well, win games, so we can try and get through what's a really difficult pool... I don't wish that type of difficulty on anyone, because I've been there. I've been in tough times and it's hard because you feel like you want to do more and he seems like, I don't know him very well, but he seems like a very genuine guy, he's very proud of what he does. I'm sure he'll bounce back, you know what I mean. I know it's tough but I don't think... our intent's certainly not to come here and do that. We just want to try to get four points, to try to get through the pool, that's it."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Richard Wigglesworth, England scrum-half:

"I can't really give you a sense of just how... desperately sad it is to be honest. I just want to apologise for us letting everyone down really."

Q: "And how much of a missed opportunity is it for you as a group and for rugby in this country?"

"Huge. Honestly, all we've done is... talk it up and believe that we can do something special and, in the crucial moments we weren't good enough and, today Australia were, a class above and it hurts and, messed it up last week as well, so, as I say, I'm sorry."
