McCaw calls on All Blacks to step up

  • SuggestedLeadIn: All Blacks captain Richie McCaw wants his New Zealand side to take a step up in their performance levels when they take to the field against Georgia in Cardiff on Friday (2nd October).

    Script: SOUNDBITE: (English), Richie McCaw:

"Performance wise we need to take a step up. This is the time we need to do that. We've all had a run in the first two games, so there is no excuses for not being ready to go. There has been a little bit of edge this week in terms of making sure that we get the things that - we were a little bit off in the first couple of games - but if we get them right, hopefully we will get a good performance."

    SOUNDBITE: (English), Richie McCaw:

"The bits I've seen of the Georgians, they are pretty big men and they love the contact area. I think that's the key to winning Test matches really, is getting that right - so whether it would be breakdown or when you are carrying the ball or whatever. Those are the areas that you've got to get right and perhaps when you look at the first half of the Argentina game, perhaps we didn't get that as well as we could have. We came right in the second half and it was OK against the Namibians. But it has got to be a step up and the Georgians will challenge that I'm sure."

    SOUNDBITE: (English), Kieran Reed:

"It doesn't change too much, I think we've got a really good bench so that the mix that the coaches go with - probably if I have to go to lock or Jerome (Kaino) or anyone it gives us a good balance on the field for that last part of the game. We want to keep guys with fresh legs in good positions."
