  • SuggestedLeadIn: England head coach Stuart Lancaster said "there is no hiding away from where the responsibility and the accountability lies" as his team get ready for their must-win 2015 Rugby World Cup match against Australia on Saturday (3rd October).

Script: SOUNDBITE: (English) Stuart Lancaster, England head coach (Q: What has been the overriding message to the players this week?)

"We can't wallow and feel sorry for ourselves, you know we've got a massive game this week and you have got to stand up and go back. The boys responded brilliantly on Monday, we did the review, the lessons learned as we always do. Looked into Australia and the strength of their team, but also where we can exploit them and by Monday evening, I think I said at the time of the press conference, we were ready to play I think and it's a matter of holding them back this week."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Stuart Lancaster, England head coach (Q: It's a massive game but your destiny is in your own hands?)

"We respect the quality of the opposition we're playing against but we know we've beaten them as well, we've beaten them in the last two games and that belief that we've got, not just from that, but also from being in this position in the past. it reminds me, very similar to the week when we played South Africa and we came in for some criticism and we played New Zealand the following week and it was a very similar mentality in the group this week."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Stuart Lancaster, England head coach (Q: Is your position as head coach of England on the line?)

"Well I'm not going beyond this game really, there is a lot of things to play out in the next week and in the next two weeks. I'm just concentrating on getting this team to be in the right place for what is a massive game. At this level you can't spend your time thinking about what has happened in the past or what is going to happen in the future, because ultimately as a leader you're not doing your team the right job. You've got to absolutely nail down what it is going to take to win this game and that's it and if you start distracting yourself with the 'what if's' then you aren't doing your job."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Stuart Lancaster, England head coach (Q: Is this the biggest game of your whole career?)

"Yes, fairly obviously. Yeah of course it is. It is a must-win game because if we don't we don't qualify for the World Cup (quarter-finals) and there is no hiding from that, there is no hiding away from where the responsibility and the accountability lies. So of course it is. But as I say as a leader, in the number one position, I have to make sure the players are focussed not on the size of the game, you focus on the detail and the processes that go around winning the game."
