Italy believe they can beat Ireland

Friday, October 02 2015 by SNTV
  • SuggestedLeadIn: Dario Chistolini speaks about Italy's must-win 2015 Rugby World Cup Pool D game against Ireland on Sunday (4th October).
Italy go into their Pool D game with Ireland knowing only a win will do in order for them to reach the quarter-finals.
A 32-10 defeat to France left them chasing the French and Ireland for a place in the last eight.
Italy won their second game, when they edged Canada 23-18.

(Q: Are there nerves in the camp, it is a must-win for you?)

"Well it's a make or break game, it's the biggest game in our World Cup campaign so far. Obviously going down to France in the first game it left everything to this game and the boys are confident, we have to be, you can't go into the game (not being confident). We all believe we can win and that's the most important thing."

(Q: You've played France already, but do you see this game as a step up?)

"Watching Ireland's performances and where they are in the world rugby rankings at the moment, I think it's definitely a step up from the French game. The French seem always to do well in World Cup's as well. So I'm fortunate to play a lot against Irish teams and against Ireland, so we know what's coming."

(Q: It looks like Sergio Parisse will be fit, has he been the missing ingredient in this World Cup?)

"Let's say he's a big boost, he is a big plus towards this game, it's good to have him back. Obviously one game and one man cannot beat a team but he can certainly help us do that."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Dario Chistolini, Italy prop:

(Q: Having beaten Ireland in the Six Nations in 2013 does that give you confidence or is ti not a factor?)

"No it definitely is a factor, we look back to that game often and we see what we did well that day and we try to bring back some of the things we did that day in our game plan and it's definitely a good thing knowing that we beat ireland in the last two seasons."
