Lewandowski keeps on scoring

  • SuggestedLeadIn: Robert Lewandowski continued his scoring streak - and became the quickest foreign player to reach 100 Bundesliga goals - as Bayern Munich beat Mainz 3-0 on Saturday (26th September).

Script: Bayern Munich's match against Mainz left their string of undefeated games in tact.

For Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, it stood out as a game to really celebrate: He smashed his won record by scoring his 100th Bundesliga goal in 168 games.

There wasn't enough fight in the first half: a misguided kick by Mueller saw the ball fly over the cross bar during a penalty after Kingsley Coman had been hauled down.

But after half time, Lewandowski came into his own, and rapidly brought up the score with a brace.

His perfect header into the corner of the net marked goal number 100.

And soon after he had yet another cause for celebration after collecting Arturo Vidal's pass, and rounding keeper Loris Karius to score in the open net.

An incisive burst from Douglas Costa set up Bayern's third, as Coman tapped the ball in from close range.

Mainz will next play Darmstad, who suffered the same 3-0 fate against Bayern.

With seven out of seven wins this season, Pep Guardiola's side are now just two away from breaking their league record of consecutive wins from the start of the season.
