Wales reflect on historic Twickenham win

  • Reaction from Twickenham after Wales defeated England 28-25 in a thrilling Rugby World Cup contest on Saturday (26th September).

Script: SOUNDBITE (English) Scott Baldwin, Wales Hooker:

"Yeah it feels pretty good. The boys are obviously really happy with the result. I think it wasn't the greatest performance, especially in the first 50 minutes we gave away a few silly penalties. The set piece didn't go great from a personal point of view but I thought the impact of the boys that came on was great and I thought the last ten minutes with all the injuries we had, boys playing out of position, was fantastic. It shows the courage and the strength of the squad we've got and we're a tight knit group, we are."

SOUNDBITE (English) Scott Baldwin, Wales Hooker:

"I think it's massive - to come to Twickenham where they've made a fortress the last couple of seasons and to get a result the way we did just shows the character of the squad and the belief in the squad moving forward into the remaining two Pool matches."

SOUNDBITE (English) Dan Lydiate, Wales Flanker:

"There's quite a few leaders out there so they were just saying to the boys 'keep calm and we'll just chipping away and it will come' - and it did in the end. It was a great feeling at the end of that match. That whistle couldn't come soon enough but as soon as it did I felt like Usain Bolt running on the field. It will live long in the memory."

SOUNDBITE (English) Justin Tupuric, Wales Flanker:

"Everyone's got to stay grounded and it's a tough game Thursday (v Fiji). It's short turnaround, we've a lot of injuries. The boys have got to take make we're switched on and ready to go. If we take Fiji lightly - we know in the past what's happened - they'll turn us over."

SOUNDBITE (English) Gareth Davies, Wales Scrum Half:

"It's a massive win for us but Thursday is an even bigger game for us now. If we lose Thursday it makes this win pointless really. So we've got to prepare well for Fiji. It's going to be a different type of challenge for us. It's going to be a big game I think."
