Eddie Jones calls on English support against Scotland

  • SuggestedLeadIn: As Japan prepare to take on Scotland in the Rugby World Cup, Japan head coach Eddie Jones said on Tuesday (22 September) he wants to prove that their shock win over South Africa on Saturday (18 September) was no fluke. Jones insists that Japan are the fitter side who will win the game if they are ahead at half-time.

Script: "Mentally, it's hard for the players. When you've played a big game it's hard to come back down, but their focus is pretty good, we had a good meeting today, the players' minds seem to be in the right place, but we'll know at two-thirty tomorrow."

"We respect Scotland greatly, they have improved a lot under Vernon Cotter (Scotland head coach). He's a typical Kiwi, he knows his rugby well. They are a well coached team, he's got them back to a more Scottish way of playing, so we know it's going to be a very tough game. In the last two years we've definitely made progress, our set piece has improved enormously, our defence is in the right direction, and we have ability to attack with tempo, which is a point of difference for us. The crucial part of any game in Gloucester, you know Gloucester is one of the great spiritual homes of rugby isn't it? You've got the forest, what's the forest called? The Forest of Dean, one of the great rugby areas of the world. People in Gloucester know their rugby, so hopefully we will get a lot of support from the local crowd. They normally wear red and white so they can wear red and white tomorrow and support us. I know the English don't like the Scottish so that's another bonus for us."
