Hansen looking forward to coaching at Wembley

  • Defending champions New Zealand named their team on Friday (18th September) for their 2015 Rugby World Cup opening game against Argentina on Sunday (20th September).

Script: SOUNDBITE: (English) Steve Hansen, New Zealand head coach (Q; It's quite a start to the pool playing at Wembley Stadium?):

"Yeah, well that's, that's impressive in itself, isn't it. There's a lot of history comes with Wembley. I've never been there personally myself, from a game point of view, and I don't think too many of the players have, so.... but we all understand and know the history of Wembley and, it's a special arena and special history and, history seems to excite this team a wee (small) bit, so that will be good and, 92, 93-thousand people, it doesn't get any better than that. So, should be good."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Steve Hansen, New Zealand head coach (Q; The Argentine pack showed their potency with the driving maul against):

"Yeah, they're a big unit and they're a good unit. We've got to know them pretty well over the last few years, with them coming into the Rugby Championship, so we'd expect a real physical battle, but they've got some classy backs too, so.... look, and what we know about Rugby World Cups is everybody, every team will play at a higher ability than they have prior to whatever they've done before they get here. Everyone gets up for it and, we'd expect that from Argentina."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Steve Hansen, New Zealand head coach (Q; No team has defended the World Cup, how difficult will it be?):

"Well I think, your question answers the.... your statement answers the question.... no one's done it before, so it must be difficult. But doesn't mean to say it can't happen, and someone's going to have to do it first, and we're the only ones in this tournament that have got an opportunity, so.... again though, (I) want to emphasise that, we've learned in 07, you look too far ahead you get on a plane and go home. So we'll just worry about Argentina this week and Namibia the next game and so forth and so forth. It's an old cliche, but it's one that we're hanging on to."
