Rowntree- I can feel support building

  • England on Thursday (17 September) talked about meeting Fiji in the World Cup opening game.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Graham Rowntree, England forwards coach:(Q: Will you try to feed off support?)

"I think we are well aware of the excitement and support walking around and all the messages back home, but you can feel it. It reminds me of the Olympics, that simmered and simmered and suddenly it was here and the whole country got behind it. It feels the same in this tournament, you can feel the support building and building. I think tomorrow night will show that."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Graham Rowntree, England forwards coach:(Q: How difficult will it be to stop Fiji scrum half Nikola Matawalu?)

"They have got challenges across the board haven't they, particularly their second row (Leone) Nakarawa, he's a real prospect, we've got to keep him quiet, never mind the nine (scrum half). We've done our homework on them, because that's the respect we'll give any opposition, we're ready for them. Our guys are a handful as well, they've got to stop us, on our own turf."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Geoff Parling, England second row:(Q: Your lineout has struggled at times, how much work are you doing to rectify this?)

"A lot of work, but a lot of work goes into it for every game in every Championship. I think there was a few fix ups, I thought the lineout in the last game went very well and I know that we're a very good set-piece team and there's absolutely no issues there for me."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Geoff Parling, England second row:(Q: How crucial will the Twickenham factor be in the tight games?)

"We all appreciate what a special experience it is playing at Twickenham, our form at Twickenham is very good. I think we've won the last seven there, so it's definitely a helping factor. That familiarity, those same routines. I do think it will help us to push on."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Geoff Parling, England second row:(Q: Matt Dawson has done a haka impersonation, which has angered some in New Zealand, have you seen it?)

"Yeah I've seen it, but I enjoy facing the haka, we all do, it's a great thing. I think it's a brilliant thing in sport and I'm not really sure why he's done that be fair."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Graham Rowntree, England forwards coach:(Q: What are the chances of an upset tomorrow?)

"Well there has been a lot of talk about this word upset. We've prepared well for this game right. For our guys it's a time of their lives this. We're going to be on our own turf, in front of their families and friends, fifteen million potentially on TV watching them, 50 million country-wide supporting them, they're pretty aware of that support. So which team is the pressure on, that's my question to you."
