British Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed the rugby World Cup trophy to Downing Street with the opening match of the tournament just over 24 hours away.

Tension is certainly building as the start of the tournament looms and support for the home nation is certainly growing.

Hosts England start proceedings against Fiji at Twickenham on Friday and their World Cup-winning captain from 2003, Martin Johnson brought the Webb Ellis Cup to the Prime Minister, along with Maggie Alphonsi, who was part of the England women's World Cup-winning side last year.

There are 20 competing nations, with New Zealand defending the title they won on home soil four years ago.

They beat France by a single point 8-7 to take the win in Aukland and will be hoping they can reach the final and win the World Cup once again.

However, no country has ever won back-to-back World Cups.

The final will take place at Twickenham on Saturday 31 October.
