Burgess dismisses reports of Australia return

Wednesday, September 16 2015 by SNTV
  • SuggestedLeadIn: On Monday (14th September), multiple stories from down under suggested NRL (National Rugby League) side South Sydney Rabbitohs are keen to bring Sam Burgess back.

But speaking to the media ahead of England's 2015 Rugby World Cup opener against Fiji on Friday (18th September), the 26-year-old refuted any suggestion he is set to return to Australia.

Script: SOUNDBITE (English) Sam Burgess, England centre:

(Q: You know what your future holds. Any truth in them at all that you're going to go back (to Australia) at the end of this season)

"There's no truth in it at all. I've not heard a word from Australia. I don't know where it's come from. It's definitely not true."

(Q: What about the timing of this? Could it be the papers there trying to unsettle you on the eve of a World Cup?)

"I'm not too worried if that's the plan mate and I'm not so sure it's worked. It is what it is, you just crack on. Not had anything at all. I'll put it to bed. I think it's a beta up story and I'll leave it at that."

(Q: You've said in the past that you're not going to back until you've given Union a good crack, but what do you mean by a good crack?)

"I think we are going off topic a little bit, that's something I'll get to when I get to. For now I've got quite a bit in front of us starting with Fiji in a few days time so I don't really want to talk about it."

SOUNDBITE (English) Sam Burgess, England centre:

(On his role coming off the bench).

"I've got a job to do personally for the team when I get out there. Try and execute that as well as I can. Stuart (Lancaster) has given me confidence, told me to go out there and be myself. Hopefully I'll do that and go out and deliver whatever time I get out there."
