  • Syrian football players comment of the moving images of their follow citizens who died in their flight for safety from the war torn country.

Script: SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Mosab Belhous, Syria goalkeeper

"We are following all the news and seeing the images of migrants. It's sad that anybody should leave their homeland and migrate. Many people migrated under the current conditions which are difficult for 99 per cent of the Syrian people. Yesterday, or about two days ago, the image of the Syrian child who drowned was in circulation which made a huge impact on us. It had a significant effect on us, as players."

SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Fajr Ibrahim Syria coach

"Today we were chatting about the dead children who drowned. It was an ugly scene. Our hearts ache and bleed from watching such scenes, and for the state of affairs the Syrian people are now facing. All Arabs used to come to Syria, in their catastrophes or otherwise, but we have never housed them in tents. All Arabs, Iraqis and Lebanese brothers used to stay in our homes, sharing our food and water- we never placed them in tents (camps). But unfortunately, when Syrians are displaced, when the Syrian people faced this catastrophe and 82 countries are conspiring against us (in the war) you can see that those who claim to be Arab nationalist only built refugee camps to house our refugees."
