St Petersburg stadium "a remarkable effort " - Unger

  • FIFA representatives visit a new stadium which is under construction in St Petersburg for the 2018 World Cup.

Script: SOUNDBITE (English) Chris Unger, the head of FIFA's monitoring group for the 2018 World Cup:

"Until now all we've seen really is pictures of what the stadium will look like once it is completed. When we were here a year ago it was still very much a drawing - something that was still in our minds but not really something you could see exactly how it is going to look like. But now that we are here 11 months later, we can see and imagine how this is going to look and how this is going to work."

SOUNDBITE (English) Chris Unger, the head of FIFA's monitoring group for the 2018 World Cup:

"And as Dmitri said that is the reason why we are here again 11 months later. It is to see now that we have a better idea of the spaces, of the access ways, how it all comes together for the different groups that use the stadium. It's truly impressive. Not just the stadium and the work that is being done here. But if you look out and see the infrastructure, the bridge that is being built behind the stadium, it is really a remarkable effort that the city of St. Petersburg is putting in to make it first class World Cup facility."
