Porter: " I am confident"

  • Great Britain's 110-metre hurdler Tiffany Porter and long jumper Shara Proctor say they are aiming for glory in Beijing, China at the World Championships

Script: SOUNDBITE (English) Tiffany Porter, Great Britain (on aims):

"My aim is to execute a clean race. Hurdles is really unique in the sense that we have 10 barriers. 10 opportunities to get it right and 10 opportunities to really mess it up too. So, if I can execute a clean race, and do what I normally do, I think really special things are in store."

SOUNDBITE (English) Shara Proctor, Great Britain (on breaking British long jump record):

"It gave me a lot of confidence - setting the record. Especially doing it in the London Olympic Stadium. Last time in that stadium it didn't go that great. I felt like I redeemed myself. But now it's the time for the championships (and so) that is in the back of my mind. I am confident but I have to think about creating a whole new experience."

SOUNDBITE (English) Tiffany Porter, Great Britain (on Sebastian Coe cleaning up athletics):

"That's the hope. I am very excited. I think he is the right man for the job. I am just looking forward to where the future of the sport is."

SOUNDBITE (English) Shara Proctor, Great Britain (on Greg Rutherford):

"Definitely. He is a great inspiration. He won many championships so I am trying to follow his suit. And I know I have potential. This year, I am very focused. I am going there. I am going to compete and get a medal."

SOUNDBITE (English) Tiffany Porter, Great Britain (on Sebastian Coe's election as IAAF president):

"I think that it's awesome. I think it's going to bode well for the future of our sport - and hopefully do what he needs to do to help us paint athletics in a positive light."

SOUNDBITE (English) Shara Proctor, Great Britain (on conditions in China):

"I think I have had noodles every single day. But I love the conditions. It is really nice and warm. It's not as humid as I thought it would be. It's not too hot so I can keep hydrated pretty easily. But I have competed in the Bird's Nest before for the Beijing world challenge. And the atmosphere was amazing. So, I just can't wait to go there and compete."
