International Olympic Committee executive board members Sergey Bubka and Sir Craig Reedie back America to nominate a replacement city to host the 2024 Olympics after Boston ended its bid because of a lack of public support.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Sergey Bubka, IOC executive board member
"I think it is very important for us to have American bid for 2024 (Summer Olympics), because it is a very important country, very strong country in sport and of course in Olympic movement, but I think they will reconsider, some American cities will be candidate for 2024. As I said, it is important for sport and Olympic movement."SOUNDBITE: (English) Sir Craig Reedie, IOC executive board member
"Well, it's always sad when a National Olympic Committee puts forward a city and then they can't complete the whole process. So everybody will regret that it has happened. However, if you look at the statement that has come from the United States Olympic Committee and from Boston, they seem to me to have reached a reasonably amicable decision, so United States at the moment, no longer have a candidate. With a bit of luck, they'll have another one soon."
