  • Intro:

Roberto Martinez reflects on Everton's season, Sylvain Distin's time at the club and Ross Barkley's international call up ahead of final Premier League game of the season against Tottenham.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roberto Martinez, Everton manager:

"I think the biggest satisfaction is that when we had to win in the league we showed incredible personality and great character in the dressing room and we've quite consistent after the first week of January. So many lessons have been learnt in the manner that we faced adversity and that's something that's going to help us immensely going into next season."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roberto Martinez, Everton manager (on Ross Barkley being picked for the senior England squad and not the under-21 squad):

"I think Gareth Southgate has done a terrific job in putting a team together - they've found a winning way and it makes complete sense for everyone that Ross is involved with the senior squad and is able to have a good break because it's been a really demanding period over the last two seasons. He hasn't really had a break or the time that he needs to regenerate. I completely agree with the decision that the FA (Football Association) and Gareth Southgate have taken."
