'Blatter is chasing champagne'- Maradona

  • Intro:

Diego Maradona discusses the Qatar World Cup, the English Premier League and German football.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Diego Maradona: (Question: Do you think the World Cup being held in Qatar will be a good one?)

"First we didn't know where the World Cup was going to be held. Then we found out after Brazil it was Russia and then Qatar. Without any doubt whatsoever Blatter is scared. Blatter is scared. He's scared of being denied his share of the cake. That is what really annoys someone like me, who has played in four World Cups. I was chasing the ball, Blatter is chasing champagne."

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Diego Maradona: (Question: Why do you think so many Argentinians are successful in the English Premier League?)

"I think the Argentinian player has changed the chip in his head and is now more professional. English football is competitive, the ball is never out of play. You always have to be ready to receive the ball with two men marking you straight away so you need to pass it quickly. I think because of this reason the English clubs' directors are more willing to have Argentine players.

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Diego Maradona: (Question: Is Germany now the powerhouse of world football?)

"I think Germany has the best teams, a very good training system creating great players, and the most important fact: the stadiums are full in Germany, which didn't happen in the past. Because of this I think that German football is the third best league in the world after the Spanish league and the Premier League."
