Spectacular scenes welcomed PEC Zwolle and Groningen as they faced off in the Dutch Cup final, with Zwolle looking to retain the trophy.
And they started the better of the two sides and had the best chance of the first half through Jody Lukoki.
The midfielder avoided a series of challenges before curling his right-footed effort just past the post after 37 minutes.
However, after the break, the game took a turn for the worse for the defending champions.
The man to inflict the damage was Slovakian midfielder Albert Rusnak.
He struck in the 64th minute with an excellent volley from the edge of the area, which went flying into the bottom corner.
Groningen found a second just 11 minutes later, and once again the man with the finish was Rusnak.
This time a quick counter attack saw the ball fall to him and he finished in style to make it 2-0.
A vital goal for Groningen who put an exclamation mark on their triumph in the Dutch Cup.
In fact, it was the first time in the club's history that it lifted the trophy, the only other final appearance finishing in defeat back in 1989.
No such ending for Groningen this time around, as they provide their fans with a first major piece of siliverware.
