Pardew: Top ten finish 'not a realistic target'

Tuesday, March 03 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Alan Pardew would be "surprised" if Mile Jedinak was punished retrospectively after he appeared to catch Diafra Sakho with his elbow during his side's 3-1 win at West Ham on Saturday (28th February). He also thinks a top-10 finish was "not a realistic target" ahead of their trip to Southampton.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: Alan Pardew, Crystal Palace manager (Q: Considering your form, is the top half of the table a realistic target?)

"No. It's not a realistic target."

    Q: Why not?

"Because we are not prepared and not good enough to do that. We are a team that has to fight and we're evolving our playing style, we're not going to be able to do that (finish in the top 10). We need to stay in the division, as simple as that, that is our only goal."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alan Pardew, Crystal Palace manager (Q: Do you think Mile Jedinak will be given a retrospective ban for his tackle against West Ham?)

"I've seen worse incidents where nothing has happened. So I'll be surprised if something happens with this, but the media as they are have highlighted it and we'll have to see where it goes."

SOUNDBITE: Alan Pardew, Crystal Palace manager (Q: After the Mile Jedinak tackle was highlighted, do you think there is a danger of it being 'trial by media'?)

"Yes, I think it's a problem. I think the FA need to be very careful with it. We have an incident on Dawson on Speroni from I don't know, I saw it this morning, it's far worse than this incident, nothing was done. So, you know, it is about where are the guidelines, what are we doing. In retrospect is very, very difficult anyway and I think the FA have a very tough job as well by the way. We had the incident with (Nemanja) Matic of course and the incident with (Stephen) Ireland at the weekend as well. It's difficult, where do you draw the line? Does the referee ref it, what's seen is seen, but retrospective on the sending off's, diving, all of this is in the agenda of course and we need to have some clear guidelines I think."
