Defour injury overshadows Anderlecht win

  • Intro:

Anderlecht had a man sent off after six minutes and Steven Defour was taken off with a serious looking injury but they still beat Kortrijk 2-0 in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday,

    Script:

This was Olivier Deschacht 501st game for Anderlecht. Few know how to win a title quite like him. He would've been aware that Club Brugge won earlier in the day and so his side needed to beat Kortrijk to keep pace at the top.

Their task was made much harder when they had a man sent off within the first six minutes. Rolando shown a straight red card for that challenge on Lukas Van Eenoo.

In such circumstances champions tend to dig deep and with just over five minutes to go of the first half, the ten men took the lead.

Aleksandar Mitrovic heading in his 19th goal in all competitions this season.

After the break came a real moment of concern for the home side...

Steven Defour clearly in a lot of pain and when you see the replay of that challenge it's clear to see why. Keep an eye on his left leg here. He was taken off immediately and he could now miss the play-offs which start later this month.

This was a heated game and Kortrijk had a man sent off of their own with just under 10 minutes to go.

Adam Marusic shown a second yellow for a crude shoulder charge.

Anderlecht had done well enough against eleven men and it took them just four minutes to score again after that sending off. Andy Najar sealing the win.
It finished 2-0, the champions are just a point behind the leaders.
