'Sexton suffers hamstring twinge' - Schmidt

Monday, March 02 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt and captain Paul O'Connell reflect on beating England 19-9 in the Six Nations and Irish fly-half Jonathan Sexton feeling 'a twinge' in his hamstring.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Schmidt, Ireland head coach (On Johnny Sexton's injury situation)

"Johnny just felt a twinge in his hamstring when he was kicking that conversion from the corner and again we haven't had that assessed so I can't really comment as to the severity or non-severity of that."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Paul O'Connell, Ireland captain (On win)

"We built it up as a really big game, a really important game for us, you know, it was right up there, as big a challenge as we've had since Joe has taken over, right up there with the New Zealand game or whatever. So to go out and execute like we did and to do so many positives like we did, particularly in the first half, I think we were held over the line twice, you know, gave us a great feeling."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Schmidt, Ireland head coach (Q: How does it feel to be in control of your own destiny when it comes to the title?)

"Yeah, control is fickle. It's nice to be in the position we're in, without a doubt, even our points differential is very much aided by the 10-point swing today, because it is a 20-point swing with England, which is potentially really important considering they've got two home games and could accumulate a few points, but also they could also put a bit of pressure on from that perspective if we do slip up in either of the next two games, then that points differential could be important again, because Grand Slams don't happen that often, it's pretty hard to get them. You know it's going to be very hard at the Millennium (Stadium), Wales got themselves back into the championship, the last time they won the Championship they lost their first game at home and then went through and won the championship. You know they're no doubt eyeing up something similar this year."
