Standard leave it late as winning run goes on

  • Intro:

Ricardo Faty scores an 89th minute winner as Standard Liege beat Cercle Brugge 1-0 in the Belgian Pro League.

    Script:

Standard Liege came into this hoping to make it five home wins in a row but they came up against an inspired performance from Cercle Brugge's goalkeeper Olivier Werner. He denied Emoh Ezekiel early on.

The Nigerian striker had another chance to score in the 63rd minute but he sent his shot flying over the bar.

That didn't need the attention of Olivier but this shot from Adrien Trebel certainly did.

It looked as though Jose Riga's side would have to settle for a point until the 89th minute when Darwin Andrade crossed for Ricardo Faty.

Heartbreak for Olivier but relief for the home side, surely their winning run would continue now.

There was one nervy moment though deep in injury time...Tim Smolders forcing a save out of Yohann Thuram. It finished 1-0, this is turning into a title challenge.
