Newcastle Stadium was packed with green and gold supporters on Tuesday as Australia faced the United Arab Emirates in the semi-finals of the Asian Cup.
Tournament host's Australia opened the the scoring just three minutes after kick-off.
Defender Trent Sainsbury headed in from a corner to give the Socceroos the lead.
The UAE were too busy thinking about danger man Tim Cahill and Sainsbury was left unmarked to make it 1-0.
The Emirates had a chance to equalise in the 10th minute, but Ahmed Khalil's effort hit the outside of the post.
A great run from Sanquor setting up the move and it wasn't a bad first time effort from Khalil.
Four minutes later, Australia doubled their advantage when a cross into the box found its way to Jason Davidson - after a scramble inside the UAE's area - the fullback applied a composed first time finish to make it 2-0.
It stayed that way through half-time, then in the 51st minute Khalil had another opportunity to put the Emirates on the ·scoreboard but fired his strike just wide of the top corner.
The pace of the game slowed as heavy rain fell in Newcastle during the second half and Australia held out to win 2-0.
They advance to the final of the 2015 Asian Cup where they will face South Korea for the title on Saturday in Sydney.
The UAE will remain in Newcastle and play Iraq in the 3rd place playoff match on Friday.
