"I quickly realised, like I said, I was in a real bad situation and made the decision that I was going to start swimming towards shore. I was going to start swimming west and try to, I figured I was nine miles out, I figured that it was going to take me more then ten hours to get back to shore. And I thought that that was not a possibility at this point in time. Everything that I had read had said you had two to three hours of treading water, swimming, before you had hypothermia or you cramped up. And both were going to be bad outcomes."

"I shouldn't be here. Sixteen hours in the water. I think I ended up travelling 27 miles. Talking to the coast guard yesterday I think I was in the water for 16 hours, 27 miles and I shouldn't be here."

"Yeah I mean after some time I just said look, I'm not dying tonight and I'm going to make it to shore."
