Carver reacts to Newcastle fans booing

  • Intro:

Reaction after Leicester City beat Newcastle United 1-0 in the FA Cup third round.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: Newcastle caretaker head coach John Carver (about the travelling Newcastle fans booing the team after the end of the match)

"It's hugely embarrassing but they are entitled to do that. One thing I was going to do was make sure the players did go over. And I was in front of everybody because we deserved it. If that's how they feel they pay their money and they are entitled to do that. I'm certainly not going to shirk my responsibility and I thought it was important the players didn't either. So it was important that we went across and showed our appreciation for our support."

SOUNDBITE: Newcastle caretaker head coach John Carver (about whether he wants the job on a permanent basis)

"I'd be a fool if I didn't want to be manager of this football club or head coach. So deep down inside me I was always thinking that. Obviously results dictate what happens but I don't feel any different. I know we had a lot of young lads in the squad today and they'll benefit from this experience and I still want to be the head coach of this football club so I am putting my hat in the ring."

    SOUNDBITE: Leicester manager Nigel Pearson

"It's never easy for a club to go through another period of change with a manager going and speculation about who's going to take over. It's never easy. I have been involved in clubs like that in the past and the speculation can somewhat take over."
